Living in Innsbruck and only speaking English ... help please!! :)

Posted in Austria forum

Hello everyone!

I have just moved to Innsbruck (as of Feb 2010) and I am looking to meet people, make new friends and I also need to find a German speaking language course in Innsbruck, that is not too expensive, as my German is rubbish at the moment :( I have been lucky enough to keep the job I had in the UK and work from home in Innsbruck, therefore only available evenings and some weekends...

I would love to hear from someone soon :)

Kind regards,
Gem :)

    Hi Lee,

No problem at all, the address is as follows:
    Marktgemeine Rum
    Abteilung Meldeamt
    Rathausplatz 1
    6063 Rum / Austria

I went to the one in Rum as I live in Rum (in between Innsbruck and Hall).

If you do come across a German Teacher, or an evening class, please do let me know that would be great, thanks!

Let me know if you need anything else!

Hi Gemma, thanks for the reply that's very helpful. Yes if you would send me the address of the government office you visited that'd be great! No I don't speak German yet but I intend to get onto that straight away. I haven't got a place to live organised yet either but I was thinking I'd like to live either in Innsbruck or in Hall a few kilometres away. Hopefully it's not too hard to find a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment somewhere to rent. I know a few locals from work who can hopefully lend a hand with that stuff but they had no clue on how a foreigner registers to live in Austria. Thanks a million for the info, if you're still stuck for a German teacher and I come across one I'll let you know! Bye for now. :) Lee

    Hi Lee,

It sounds like you are having a nightmare with your computer, the joys of technology! :)

When you arrive you will need to go and see the Austrian Government and let them know that you are there, I can provide you with an address and contact number if that helps? They will just ask a couple of basic questions i.e. your address and photocopy your passport. Three months later they will send you a letter asking you to go and see them (you will be sent to a different office), they will then take copies of your wage slips (I think I had to take the last 3) and photocopy your passport again, you will need a passport photo and any other relevant documentation... They will just ask a few more questions, take €15 euros from you and give you a certificate of residence :)

Do you speak German already? Do you have a place to live and everything sorted out?

Hello Gem'm'a, firstly m'y c'om'puter has suffered a half c'up of tea ov'er the keyboard and isnt working properly, that's why there are no paragraphs bec'ause the enter button doesn't work, and a few other quirks! I am' a Brit c'urrently working for an Austrian c'om'pany and I'm wanting to m'ov'e near Innsbruc'k by Dec'em'ber this year.
