Where can I find the best mobile provider?

Posted in Frankfurt forum

I'm thinking about getting myself either a prepaid card or a cheap contract. Is it possible to get a contract for one year only?
What's the best/cheapest mobile provider here and where can I find it?

Hi Risman, almost all mobile providers with a Vertrag require a minimum 24 month contract. There is one exception though which is 02. They have a contract without any base fee and you can cancel any time, but I don't know what their SMS rates for Asia are.

    Hallo Martin..

I was reading this discussion and thought that I would join.. I am also looking for a cheap mobile provider but I need one for cheaper sms.. I want to be able to send sms to Asia frequently..I actually prefer one with Vertrag..but the problem is that it is really hard to find one under 24 months..because i will stay in Germany maximum 1 year..
    So..if u could help me find..either:
-one prepaid with cheapest rate for call..sms..and internet
    OR
-mit Vertrag (but) for one year with flat-rate for call.. sms..and internet..but what's most important for me is..cheap mobile internet..and cheap sms also to Asia..and cheap calls for inside Germany only..hopefully..u can help me out..
    Danke sehr.. Tscüss!!

    Hello Gonzalo,

as a Germany I have the advantage of being able to check German websites which compare costs and offers of various providers. I had actually checked through www.teltarif.de and through a Google search I came to another site which had an applet from teltarif.de running - especioally for calls to Spain. That was where Solomo cam e into the game.

BLAU I knew from TV advertising - and since my son has gotten a card from them.... :-)

    All the best

You're right, I'd never thought that there will be offers for calls made from a mobile within Europe below 50 cent!
The only disadvantage is that these providers operate over internet only, so you can't get costumer service in a provider shop or something. But still, very handy.
By the way Martin, where did you find all these providers (blau, solomo)? If you don't know the name, there's no chance you'll find it by coincidence (at least I didn't...).

Wow! It looks like prices have really gone down! I should re-check my SIM card then as it's probably quite expensive. Right now I only use it when visiting Frankfurt, but these tarifs for calling Spain from Germany are really incredible!

Hi Martin! Thanks for all this information!

The offer of solomo sounds quite good. still I don't know if it would be better to get a tariff for cheap calls within German mobiles only, and doing my calls to Spain with Skype....I think that would be even better, as I won't be doing calls to Spain while I'm going out or something. And nowadays you have internet in nearly every rented apartment.
So I'll first check out the websites properly and then make my decision!
    Thanks again!

    Saludos

    Hi Gonzalo,

I am not aware of contracts which run only 1 year. So I would tend towards a prepaid card - which is slightly more expensive per call, but offers more flexibility in terms of contract time. :-)

Originally I was about to suggest "BLAU", since they offer Germay-wide calls as well as SMS at 9 cent. However, your calls to Spain make it a little more difficult.

However, I had been looking at the website http://www.teltarif.de and tried to generate a profile (http://www.teltarif.de/mobilfunk/profil.html). Then I found http://www.solomo.de/ who offer calls to Spain from 9 cent PLUS Germany calls at 8 cent plus calls to mobile Germany phones at 12 cent with their Pro Tariff (https://www.solomo.de:443/solomo.de/documents/Preisliste_so
lomo_Tarif_Pro.pdf). Sounds reasonable - however, if there were not those Spain calls you could go for the normal tariff (0-8-5) which offers substantially lower rates to German mobile phones....

It very much depends on your specific behaviour. If, for instance, you would not always use your mobile for doing German calls, some flat rates of Internet providers come into the game...

The market has become so difficult to understand.... but I guess that is the idea to asvoid people moving their money from one brand to another. :-)

Let me know what you have been going for...

    All the best

    Hi Martin!

I usually do phone calls to other mobiles (not like 10 calls a day, just like "normal").
Of course I'd also like to do calls to Spain. But I think there are better options like Skype or something to phone abroad, as most of the mobile providers have very high charges for that. Or do you know one, that offers cheap calls to Spain AND cheap calls within Germany??

And more important, if I'd choose one like "base" or "blau", do they offer a contract for one year only?

Thanks a lot for your help

    Gonzalo

    Hi Gonzalo,

I think you cannot answer that question per se. It is rather a questio of you would like to use your mobile.

If you talk a lot to normal telephone numbers - look for a Germany-wide flat rate (such as Base or the like).

If you do not phone verymuch, but would like to remain contactable, go for a prepaid card such as BLAU. If oyu do not phone much, BLAU would also be an option (10 Cent per Minute is fairly OK). If you phone a lot abroad, howevger, you would need to go for a special card, depending on the countries you wish to talk to....

So - what is YOUR mobile phone behaviour? ;-)

    Best regards from Wiesbaden
