Diplomatic Clause for mobile contract?

Posted in Luxembourg forum

I'd like to get an iPhone, and they generally come with a 24 month contract. Does anyone have any experience with getting a diplomatic clause in a mobile phone contract so one can end the contract if reassigned for work?

Thanks!

I haven't pursued this myself, but my impression is that if your phone is unlocked and you do not need a new phone, you can just get on one of the voice+data plans without a 2 year contract. E.g. you could have the Orange "Hello Europe Flat Surf" contract. The iPhone contracts are just the same thing with the hardware included.

For people who are looking to get a phone and wonder about this: I talked to Orange and LuxGSM, and neither will give you a clause diplomatique in the contract. If you leave early and have proof of work reassignment, Orange will let you out of the contract but will require you to pay off the phone, €629 (iirc) minus what you paid for it up front (varies by model & contract level). I think LuxGSM does a reduced-cost-by-month approach, but am not sure. Don't know about Tango.
