    Congratulations with the right choice!

I have moved out of the States because of the widespread corruption, jobs were sent away to China and Mexico, healthcare became unaffordable, skyrocketing costs of living, massive spraying of aluminium and ash in the skies, food prices tripled, property taxes, income taxes going up, massive lobbying and greedy Wallstreet traders and bankers destroying the rest what was left of the U.S. economy. Now that this once in a century event has happened, I am eager to move back to the US and help "drain the swamp in DC" and thus I am selling my beautiful property in the Azores.

Azores is a very friendly, affordable and extremely beautiful place, with unique climate (55F to 85F year round, day and night). You've made the right choice. First you need to purchase a property where you will live after deciding which island you would like to spend the rest of your days on. They will allow you to bring all our personal belongings including furniture, garden equipment, anything personal, even your car etc. as long as you don't sell it within 12 months after arrival and use it for your personal needs, in a container duty-free if you fill out all the necessary paperwork, which will be provided to you by the Embassy of Portugal.

I will be retiring in the near future and in light of the turn for the worst that the US has just taken, I know for sure now that I want to retire overseas. My family heritage is from the Azores Islands, I have researched the economy and other factors to a certain degree and I really think this is the place for me. I would appreciate in and all advice on how to make a workable plan and the steps necessary to make my dream a reality. I'd also love to hear what peoples', (especially Americans) real experiences of the Azores has been.

    Thanks to all.

Any experience with arriwing on a sailboat?
I would probably get there with a boat purchased and registered in the USA.
I guess I can avoid paying value addad tax on the boat for a year and a half.
After that I can take a trip to Morocco, and back for anthoe year and a half
avoidance. How about the liveaboards on the Azores?
I would probably start as a liveaboard.

I am still thinking about the Azores.
I found airline flight from London.
    It is a good price.
The Azores could be the European Hawaii.
