Cohabitation - Samenwoning contract

Posted in Belgium forum

Hello there,
Is there anyone among you that can enlighten me about Cohabitation? For the moment I live in Belgium and with my Belgian partner we will apply for cohabitation. But still the cohabitation procedure will not be finished before my residence permission ends. So between,I wont have an valid identity card for 2 weeks of so. The first rule; they told us, that we have to live in the same address and we do live in the same address but when we have to present our documents and when they see that my identity card is not valid anymore, will it be a problem? if any of u has an experience or safe knowledge, I ll be so glad to be informed.
Thank you

so sorry I didn't ck the message,....but yes it can be a big problem...within 3 years if you broke the contract...you must at least stay together 3 years...then make an own Fcard..not staying with partner fCard...this time you can also use public means...social wellfare etc...make sure it is after 3 years...sometimes they give you, depending on situation and if you have a good job...then they might allow you to stay...but very rare and not to take chances...keep 3 years contract...

    Hi Shanti,

If you have your orange card, that means that you are already through practically...
it is just a matter of 5 months waiting...otherwise if you had not had a chance of staying in Be. they wouldn't have issued you an orange card.
Just make sure that neither of you apply for social welfare funds for living expenses...and have at least about 1000 euro income for the both of you...then after 5 months max...you can apply for an F card...cost 15 Euro...after 3 weeks you get it after application...or 100 euro you get it within 3 days...

    just wait it out ....

hope that will be a help...

    Ferrie

    Hi Julie,

I'm doing the procedure like you did. I wonder what documents that you showed to the city hall? They are now sending my papers to Brussel and I got my orange card already, but I'm still worried or nervous that the papers are not good enough. I only gave them pictures with me and my partner and our phone bill which showed that we contacted each other a lot. Do you think it is good enough?

    Thank you.

    Shanti

    Hello once again,

Well the first thing is that I am not a person who specialize these issues. I just know details about the process (as someone who lived it) and I must say that cohabitation is sth relative and so INDIVIDUAL. the procedure can change according to every other person. So it might not be such a good idea to make a compraison between you and me. I dont know ur legal situation in spain. it s better if you first ask to integration service in ur city in spain "what if you decide to move to belgium".

during cohabitation process it is always a big advantage to have a Belgian boyfriend or sb who has belgian citizenship. I read once sb else wrote it in this forum that the best idea to start cohabitation is to come here as a student (almost the best way), and to live in the same address with your boyfriend. i dont know how things go with 3-month tourist visum...normally u cant have a "domicile" with a tourist visum
    good luck
